"Magic is the first and last religion of the world"
An excerpt from Clive Barker’s 'Imajica', the best fiction creation.
My world was once fiction, and I was a voracious reader. Clive Barker created the devil and called him Pinhead. He then became Literary God when he wrote a bible called 'Imajica' that devoured me.
“Magic is the first and last religion of the world. It has the power to make us whole, to open our eyes to the dominions, and return us to ourselves.
We’re born divided, and long for union. We’re joined to everything that was, is and will be. From one end of the Imagica to the other. From the tiniest mote dancing over the flame to the Godhead Itself.
We’ll not be subsumed at our deaths. We’ll be increased to the size of Creation. Magic’s our means to that revelation while we’re still in the flesh. The flesh isn’t punishment. It’s there for joy. But it also marks the place where we end and the rest of Creation begins. Or so we believe. It’s our illusion, of course.
Does God want us to be more than we are? Of course.
Does God want us to love, which is the desire to be joined and made whole? Of course.
Does it want us in Its glory, forever and ever? Yes, It does.”
The melding of horror, philosophy and fantasy may be daunting to the initiate, but they could glimpse into the throbbing matter that is Clive Barker by opening one of the 6 ‘Books of Blood’, a DNA of short stories.
“Everybody is a book of blood; wherever we're opened, we're red.”
Thanks for the reminder. I need to revisit the movies...very underrated.
